Our Services

How We Help Survivors

NEXTSTEP provides practical, tangible support — the everyday essentials that licensed providers and shelters often cannot supply. We fill the gaps so survivors can focus on healing and rebuilding.

Basic Needs Support

Hygiene products, clothing, household essentials, and other everyday items survivors need to feel safe and cared for.

Transportation Assistance

Gas cards, rideshare credits, and bus passes so survivors can access appointments, employment, and services.

Child Material Support

Diapers, formula, clothing, school supplies, and toys to support children affected by domestic violence.

Technology Access

Prepaid phones, data plans, and device support so survivors can stay connected to resources and loved ones.

Essential Living Assistance

Help with household supplies, groceries support, and other critical needs as survivors rebuild their independence.

Resource Navigation

We connect survivors with licensed providers, shelters, legal aid, and community services — we bridge the gap.

Important: NEXTSTEP is NOT a crisis center. We do not provide emergency services, counseling, mental health treatment, medical care, legal advice, crisis intervention, or safety planning. If you are in immediate danger, please call 911.

Survivor-Centered

We serve individuals of all genders, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, and socioeconomic statuses without discrimination.

Our Background

Mission & Story

NEXTSTEP: Unlocked Potential was founded to address a critical gap in domestic violence services: the need for practical, non-clinical support during the transition from crisis to stability.

Founded by a 17-year military veteran with a Doctorate in Criminal Justice and lived experience as a domestic violence survivor, NEXTSTEP was created through a combination of research, professional expertise, and firsthand understanding of the challenges survivors face. While lived experience informs the organization's approach, it does not replace licensed or clinical expertise.

Many survivors receive essential support through shelters, counseling, legal services, and advocacy programs. However, practical barriers such as transportation, technology access, basic necessities, and navigating complex systems often remain unmet and can hinder long-term safety and independence.

NEXTSTEP complements existing services by providing short-term material assistance, resource navigation, and survivor-directed support. The organization does not provide counseling, therapy, legal advice, advocacy, or crisis intervention. Instead, it works alongside licensed providers and community partners to help survivors access the professional services they need.

The organization's mission is grounded in dignity, choice, transparency, and respect for professional boundaries. Survivors are empowered to engage at their own pace and are never required to disclose personal experiences beyond what feels safe and appropriate.

At its core, NEXTSTEP exists to help survivors move forward by reducing practical barriers and supporting their next step toward stability, independence, and opportunity.
